The Adaptation Learning Center (ALC) in Char Kukri Mukri is a community-based initiative aimed at enhancing the resilience of local communities to climate change impacts. Located in the coastal region of Bangladesh, Char Kukri Mukri faces significant challenges due to its vulnerability to climate-induced hazards.
The ALC focuses on capacity building and the implementation of adaptive practices to mitigate the adverse effects of climate change. One notable project in the area is the Community-Based Adaptation to Climate Change through Coastal Afforestation (CBACCCF), supported by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). This project emphasizes the establishment of mangrove plantations and the development of the "Forest, Fish, and Fruit" (Triple F) model, which integrates forestry, aquaculture, and horticulture to diversify livelihoods and strengthen community resilience.
Through these initiatives, the ALC in Char Kukri Mukri plays a crucial role in equipping the community with the knowledge and resources necessary to adapt to the changing climate, ensuring sustainable livelihoods and environmental conservation.
